About Stepping Stones School

Stepping Stones Special School is non-denominational, co-educational school providing high quality education for children with a diagnosis of autism and complex needs. The school is under the patronage of Autism Ireland.

We offer all our pupils a broad and balanced curriculum that is child centred and evidenced based and takes into consideration each child’s learning style, pace of learning, individual needs and abilities.

We cater for students aged 5-18 years old. We currently have 36 students enrolled across six classes. We have a range of facilities within our school which includes; sensory rooms, OT rooms, assembly hall, sensory garden, life skills room and playground.

Our aim is to enable our students to be as independent as possible, and our services currently encompass academic teaching, functional and meaningful independent living skills, and assisting students to participate fully in community life.

This may range from shopping, to building up tolerance for dentists/hairdressers. The educational goals and curriculum objectives that are selected focus on developing skills that will are vital to the students’ life during their school years and beyond.

Classroom practice is continuously reviewed in the context of ensuring that the student is developing according to the values promoted by the school and measurement of teaching effectiveness and programmes is a primary feature in the delivery of education to each student.

We endeavour to work collaboratively with parents, local community, and staff to provide a caring and enriching learning environment where each individual is treated with dignity and respect. At the very heart of our school is the students’ wellbeing.

Our core values focus on developing strong positive relationships with our students and their families, in which all feel understood, cared for and respected.

Our school is more than just a place of education; it is a community that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence.
